DAY 1 to DAY 3 — Caracas

  • Meet-and-greet at Caracas International Airport, transfer to our hotel of choice in Caracas and introductory briefing about the country, the route and the set of rules to observe while travelling around the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

  • We’ll spend the next three days in Caracas, an extremely fascinating South American capital inhabited by an even more compelling humanity of resilient souls, hard-working people and creative minds.

  • Highlights of our sojourn in Caracas will include:

    • classic sights such as the famous Plaza Bolivar, the elegant Sabana Grande Boulevard, the mandatory Simon Bolivar’s Birthplace, the gracious Iglesia Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria, the solemn Pantheon Nacional and that chavista “Mount Olympus” known as Cuartel de la Montaña.

    • a few off-the-beaten path sights like the calm and picturesque district of El Hatillo, the friendly Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas and the slightly out-of-context Romanian Orthodox Church.

    • modernist and brutalist architectural gems from the booming 50s, 60s and 70s: Teatro Teresa Carreño, Hotel Alba, Centro Comercial Ciudad Tamanaco, Biblioteca Nacional, Towers of Silence, Olympic Stadium, Torre Polar, El Universal, Edificio Zingg, Nuestra Señora de Pompei and many more!

    • a sociocultural immersion into the city’s working-class barrios of Petare and 23 de Enero, visiting the so-called comunas, local organizations based on self-government and self-management and run according to a socialist economic model inspired by the precepts of the Bolivarian Revolution.

    • a detour to the languid city’s beaches via the idyllic hilltop hamlet of San Antonio de Galipan, a separate reality immersed in the striking natural gorgeousness of the Avila Mountain.

  • Overnights in Caracas.

Bespoke Experiences • Traditional Venezuelan lunch with a local family in Caracas and cocoa tasting session in Chuao.

DAY 4 to DAY 5 — CHORONÍ and CHUAO

  • Early morning transfer to the traditional town of Choroní via a scenic mountain road that crosses the Henri Pittier National Park, the nation's oldest natural reserve opened in 1937 to preserve a unique ecosystem of rare fauna and endemic flora.

  • Once in Choroní, we will visit the quaint fishing hamlet of Puerto Colombia and enjoy the ocean breeze at the nearby playa.

  • The following day will then be entirely devoted to Chuao, a small isolated village famous for its cacao plantations and Afro-Caribbean culture.

  • Overnights in Choroní..

DAY 6 — PUERTO CABELLO AND Barquisimeto

  • After breakfast we’ll head for Puerto Cabello, the busiest seaport in the country, and make an en-route stop in Valencia, the capital city of Carabobo State.

  • From Puerto Cabello we’ll then move further west towards Barquisimeto, a little-visited modernist city located halfway between Caracas and Maracaibo.

  • Heading down to Barquisimeto, we’ll also shortly stop at the little town San Felipe Yaracuy to visit the local brutalist cathedral and the nearby settlement of Chivacoa, home to one of the most fascinating new religious movements in South America: the syncretic cult of María Lionza.

  • Overnight in Barquisimeto.

DAY 7 TO DAY 8 — Maracaibo

  • In the morning we’ll transfer to Maracaibo, the capital of Zulia state, known as the centre of Venezuela’s oil industry.

  • Lunch break in the cattle town of Carora, a highly photogenic colonial settlement where time stood still, and late-afternoon arrival in Maracaibo.

  • The following day we’ll enjoy a comprehensive city tour focussed on Maracaibo’s rich architectural heritage and enthralling history.

  • Weather permitting, we might also be lucky enough to witness the much-celebrated Catatumbo lightning over the Lake Maracaibo, a unique atmospheric phenomenon that occurs over the mouth of the Catatumbo River.

  • Overnights in Maracaibo.

Day 9 — HASTA PRONTO, VENEZUELA!

  • After enjoying a last Venezuelan meal together, we'll take care of your transfer to Maracaibo International Airport.

  • End of the tour.
